Is SeaWorld Orlando worth it?

It is worth it for families who like roller coasters and marine animals, and for anyone who has already done Disney and Universal. SeaWorld blends big coasters, animals with live presentations, and Sesame Street Land for small children. The more of those three your group enjoys, the better the day.

On a first trip with few park days, it usually ranks behind Magic Kingdom and Universal. For repeat visitors, or families whose kids just grew tall enough for the big coasters, it moves up the list.

Where is SeaWorld Orlando and how much is parking?

SeaWorld Orlando is at 7007 SeaWorld Drive, at the south end of International Drive, near the Beachline Expressway (SR 528). Aquatica, the water park run by the same company, is right across the street.

Based on routes we calculated, the drive is 9 miles (14 km) and 19 minutes from Storey Lake in Kissimmee, and 15 miles (25 km) and 24 minutes from ChampionsGate, without traffic. Families driving down from Georgia or the Carolinas already have the car they need. Compare with the other parks in do you need a car in Orlando.

General parking costs $37 plus tax when you buy it online in advance. Preferred is $47 and VIP, closest to the entrance, is $62. If you pay on arrival, bring a card, because SeaWorld does not accept cash for parking at the entrance. Compare in Disney World and Universal parking.

What are the SeaWorld coasters and their height requirements?

There are four big coasters, all with a 54 inch (137 cm) minimum: Mako, Kraken, Manta and Pipeline. According to the park, Mako is the tallest and fastest coaster in Orlando, and Kraken is the only floorless coaster in Orlando.

SEAQuest: Legends of the Deep, a suspended dark ride in a new area, was listed as “coming soon” with no opening date.

To shorten waits, SeaWorld sells Quick Queue Unlimited, with priority access on the big coasters, Infinity Falls and Journey to Atlantis. The price varies by date. If someone skips a ride, ask the attendant about rider switch, so adults take turns without waiting twice.

What is there to do at SeaWorld besides rides?

Shows and animal areas fill a good part of the day. The website lists three live presentations: Orca Encounter, Dolphin Adventures, and Flippers, Facts and Fun: The Sea Lion Experience. All three offer paid reserved seating.

Animal areas worth a stop:

  • Shark Encounter: an underwater viewing tunnel with sharks.
  • Stingray Lagoon: a shallow pool where you can reach in and touch the rays.
  • Manatee Rehabilitation Area: a look at the park’s working manatee rescue facility.
  • Expedition Odyssey habitat: walruses and belugas, plus Magellanic penguins for a limited time.

Is SeaWorld Orlando good for toddlers and young kids?

Yes, mostly thanks to Sesame Street Land, with Elmo’s train, Grover’s coaster, a carousel, spinning rides, a splash area and climbing zones. Elmo, Cookie Monster and Abby come out for photos, and there is a Sesame Street parade.

Children under 3 get in free. You may see ads for the free Preschool Card for kids 5 and under, but it is for Florida residents only. Strollers can be reserved online for $42.

Can you bring food into SeaWorld Orlando?

No. The official rule bans outside food, drinks and coolers, except for a bottle of water. Special diets, allergies and baby food can be approved as exceptions.

All-Day Dining showed as $40 extra on top of a single-day ticket. Or have a big breakfast at the vacation home. SeaWorld allows same-day re-entry with a hand stamp. If you plan a pool break at the house and a return, ask at the parking entrance whether your parking covers a second entry.

The Fun Card does not include parking, is nontransferable and has blockout dates. At SeaWorld in 2027, those include the Saturdays of March 13, 20 and 27 and April 3, every Saturday in July, July 3 and 4, and December 23 to 25, among others. Spring break families should check that list first. Two single-day visits at the lowest price add up to $119.98. From the third visit on, the Fun Card comes out ahead.

What is the difference between SeaWorld, Aquatica and Discovery Cove?

Aquatica is the water park across the street, with slides and pools. Guests under 48 inches (122 cm) wear life vests on most attractions. It is part of the combo Fun Card and multi-park tickets. Other options in Orlando water parks.

Discovery Cove is a reservation-only day resort with limited attendance. It includes breakfast, lunch, drinks (select beer and wine) and snorkeling in the Grand Reef. The dolphin swim is its own package: kids must be 6 and 42 inches (107 cm) tall, and those 6 to 12 swim with a participating paying adult. SeaWorld and Aquatica are sold separately.

Who should go to SeaWorld Orlando?

It depends on the ages and heights in your group.

  • Kids 3 to 7: worth it for Sesame Street Land, the animals and the shows.
  • Kids 54 inches and up, and teens: very worth it. Mako, Kraken, Manta, Pipeline and Ice Breaker fit in one day.
  • Adult groups: worth it for the coasters and events like Seven Seas and Howl-O-Scream.
  • First trip with few days: keep SeaWorld as an option for a spare day.
  • Repeat visitors: a different kind of day from the parks you already know.

If rides close for more than 60 minutes because of weather, the Weather-or-Not Assurance gives you a return visit, requested within one week. See also what to do in Orlando on a rainy day.

In practice: measure the kids at home before you buy. If nobody is over 42 inches, the day will center on Sesame Street Land and the animals, and a single-day ticket is enough. If everyone clears 54 inches, buy parking online, arrive at opening and start with Mako and Pipeline.
