What are the water parks in Orlando?

Quick answer

Orlando has five main water parks: Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach, Universal's Volcano Bay, SeaWorld's Aquatica and Island H2O in Kissimmee. In October 2026, only Blizzard Beach was open at Disney, Volcano Bay closes from October 26 until April 1, 2027 at the latest, and Island H2O runs March through October.

Orlando has water parks run by Disney, Universal and SeaWorld, plus an independent park in Kissimmee. When you pick one, the calendar matters as much as the slides, because refurbishments and seasonal closures can shut a park for months. Everything below was checked on the official websites in October 2026.

Which Orlando water park is best?

The five main options are Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Volcano Bay, Aquatica and Island H2O, and the best one depends on your dates and who is in your group.

For little kids, look for the splash areas: Ketchakiddee Creek at Typhoon Lagoon, Tike’s Peak at Blizzard Beach, Walkabout Waters at Aquatica and Candy Stripe Cove at Island H2O. For thrill seekers, three slides stand out: Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach, Ko’okiri Body Plunge at Volcano Bay and Ihu’s Breakaway Falls at Aquatica.

Which Disney World water park is open?

In October 2026, Blizzard Beach was open and Typhoon Lagoon was closed for refurbishment. Disney’s calendar showed Typhoon Lagoon closed on every date through December 16, the last date published, with no reopening date announced.

Disney’s own rule makes planning easier: at least one of its two water parks is open every day, except on days with inclement weather. Each park is refurbished once a year, and those closures are staggered. A Disney water park ticket gets you into whichever park is open that day.

You have three ways in:

  • 1-day water park ticket. The price changes by date, and a cheaper version comes with blockout dates. Kids under 3 don’t need a ticket.
  • Park Hopper Plus or Water Park and Sports. Add-ons to a theme park ticket that include water park visits.
  • Water park seasonal pass. Disney advertised it at $89 plus tax, valid through May 15, 2027, with blockout dates.

Both parks heat their water to about 81°F (27°C), have a lazy river and a wave pool, and hand out life jackets and towels for free. Standard parking is free too. For a full comparison with the theme parks, see Disney and Universal parking.

Is Volcano Bay open?

Through October 25, 2026, yes. Universal says Volcano Bay begins a maintenance closure on October 26, 2026, with a planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027, dates subject to change. If your spring break falls in March, check Universal’s calendar before you buy, because the park may still be closed.

The park is built around Krakatau, a 200 ft volcano. On Ko’okiri Body Plunge you step into a clear tube and the floor drops away. Krakatau Aqua Coaster is a magnet powered water coaster, and Waturi Beach is the wave pool at the foot of the volcano.

If you’ve read about the TapuTapu wearable, which held your place in a virtual line when the park opened in 2017, note that it no longer appears on Universal’s official Volcano Bay pages. Universal now describes Volcano Bay Express, sold inside the park, with a separate Express queue at participating rides, except the Kopiko Wai and TeAwa rivers. To decide if it pays off, read is Universal Express worth it.

A 1-day ticket starts at $80.99 plus tax, and Universal’s 3, 4 and 5 day Park-to-Park tickets include Volcano Bay. There is no lot at the gate: you park in the Volcano Bay section of Universal’s garages and take a free shuttle to the entrance.

Is Aquatica Orlando worth it?

It is if your group loves waves and big slides, and it pairs well with a SeaWorld day. Aquatica’s signature is two side by side wave pools, Cutback Cove and Big Surf Shores. It also has Riptide Race, which the park bills as the world’s tallest dueling racer.

  • Single day tickets are good only on the date you choose, and there is a two day ticket that combines with SeaWorld.
  • No outside food, drinks or coolers, only a water bottle. All-Day Dining costs $35 extra.
  • Quick Queue Unlimited, which skips the line on eight slides, started at $29 on select dates.

Is there a water park in Kissimmee?

Yes. Island H2O Water Park sits at 3230 Inspiration Drive, next to Margaritaville Resort Orlando, just off US 192. If you are staying in Kissimmee or Davenport, it is usually the closest water park to the house.

The catch is the season. Island H2O operates March through October. The 2026 season runs March 6 to October 31, and in September and October the calendar shows it open only Friday through Sunday. Check the 2027 dates before you buy.

It has more than 20 attractions, including the Follow Me Falls water coaster and a toddler area called Pelican’s Paradise. The park is cashless, doesn’t provide towels and doesn’t allow outside food except for baby, allergy or medical needs.

When is the best time to visit Orlando water parks?

April through October gives you the most open parks, but summer brings real heat and frequent storms. NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals put Orlando’s average high at 91°F (32°C) in June and 92°F (33°C) in July and August.

Lightning is the bigger problem. The National Weather Service counts 80 to 90 thunderstorm days a year around Orlando and calls July the lightning month in Florida. From June through September, daytime heating combines with sea breezes to build storms. So get there at opening and enjoy the morning. More on summer in what Orlando is like in July.

In winter, Disney’s water stays heated, but January’s average high is just 72°F (22°C). If you’re driving down for a January getaway, Volcano Bay and Island H2O will be closed, and Aquatica’s hours should be checked on its official calendar.

What happens if there is lightning at the water park?

When lightning is in the area, slides and pools shut down. The National Weather Service notes that lightning can strike up to 10 miles (16 km) from a storm and says to wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before heading back out.

  • Disney. Full-day closures show on the calendar at least a day ahead. Temporary same-day closures can happen with little notice and won’t show on the calendar.
  • Aquatica. You get a return visit if rides close for more than 60 minutes or the heat index reaches 110°F (43°C). Submit the request within a week.
  • Island H2O. If all rides close for a continuous hour, or operations stop three times that day, and you leave, you get a return ticket for the same season.

If a storm wipes out the day, try things to do in Orlando on a rainy day.

In practice: in July, book the water park for the morning and arrive before opening. Keep the afternoon free to head back to the house, eat lunch in the air conditioning and swim once the sky clears. Between October and March, check which Disney water park is open before you buy a ticket.

Can the vacation home pool replace a water park day?

On a rest day, yes. A private pool costs nothing extra to use, has no line and is a few steps from your bedroom. A plan that works well is one water park day per trip and the pool at the house on your off days.

The lightning rule applies at home too, but shelter is right there. From November through March, an unheated pool is too cold for most kids. What heating costs is covered in Orlando pool heat cost, and you can browse vacation homes with a private pool.
