In Orlando, the price of a place to stay, the price of a park ticket and the length of the lines rise and fall together. School calendars drive all three: American ones first, then Canadian and British ones. The table on this page shows the median nightly rate of our homes for each of the next 12 months, from real rates refreshed with every site update. Below is why each month lands where it does.
When is the off season in Orlando?
Off season runs from late August to early December, except Thanksgiving week. In the table on this page, October shows up as the cheapest month of the year, with September, August and November also among the lowest.
The reason is simple: kids are in school. In Orange County, the school district that covers Orlando, the 2026 to 2027 school year started on August 11. New York City public schools started on September 10. With no school break on the calendar, demand drops.
August and September are also hot and wet, and the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season is September 10, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
October is the turning point. Per the NWS office in Melbourne, the dry season usually starts that month with the first cold front. Average rainfall in Orlando drops to 3.5 inches (88 mm), less than half of June’s 8 inches, and the average high falls to 85 °F (29 °C). Schools, however, are still in session. That combination is what makes October such good value.
The off season has short spikes:
- Long weekends. Labor Day fell on September 7, 2026. Columbus Day, October 12, 2026, is a student holiday in Orange County and also Canadian Thanksgiving, a school holiday in Toronto.
- UK half term. British schools take a week off in late October. In Bolton, near Manchester, it runs from October 26 to 30, 2026. Dates vary by council.
- Thanksgiving. It falls on November 26, 2026. Orange County schools are off the whole week, November 23 to 27, and New York City students are off Thursday and Friday.
To find the quietest days inside a month, see the least crowded times at the Orlando parks. For the holiday week itself, read Thanksgiving in Orlando.
When is peak season in Orlando?
Peak season clusters in three windows: mid February through April, June and July, and late December. In each one, several school calendars line up on the same break.
Mid February through April. It starts with Presidents’ Day, a federal holiday on February 15, 2027. Orange County schools close that day, New York City takes Midwinter Recess from February 15 to 19, and Bolton’s February half term falls on the same week. Then comes spring break. Each U.S. district picks its own week, which spreads the crowds across several weekends. Orange County’s spring break is March 15 to 19, 2027, the same week as the mid-winter break (March Break) at the Toronto District School Board. Easter is March 28, 2027, with Good Friday on March 26. In Bolton, the Easter holidays run from March 26 to April 11. New York City’s spring recess is later, April 22 to 30.
June and July. This is American summer vacation. The last day of school is May 26, 2027 in Orange County and June 28 in New York City. Memorial Day, May 31, 2027, kicks off the season, and Independence Day is observed on Monday, July 5, 2027, making a long weekend.
Late December. Orange County’s winter break runs from December 21, 2026 to January 1, 2027, and Toronto’s covers the same dates. New York City is off from December 24. In Bolton, schools break up on December 18 and return January 4. See Christmas in Orlando for what to expect.
January sits in the middle. After the New Year’s rush, U.S. schools reopen (Orange County returns January 5, 2027) and demand eases. The exception is Martin Luther King Jr. weekend, with the federal holiday on January 18, 2027. Details are in Orlando in January.
A note for British families. The UK summer holidays start late. Bolton’s summer term ends on July 23, 2027, so a British family on summer holiday can travel in August, when Florida schools are restarting and American demand is already falling.
The table sums up what pushes each month up or down. Calendars vary by district; the ones here are examples with official published dates.
| Month | Trend | Why it is high or low |
|---|---|---|
| January | Middle | U.S. winter break until January 1, then school. MLK Day on January 18, 2027. |
| February | High | Presidents’ Day on February 15, 2027, with a full week off in some districts (New York City, February 15 to 19) and UK half term. Mild, dry weather. |
| March | High, the priciest in our table | Spring break for many districts (Orange County, March 15 to 19, 2027), Toronto’s March Break the same week and Easter on March 28, 2027. |
| April | High | Spring breaks after Easter (New York City, April 22 to 30, 2027) and UK Easter holidays (until April 11 in Bolton). |
| May | Transition | School in session most of the month. Some districts start summer break in late May. Memorial Day on May 31, 2027. |
| June | High | U.S. summer vacation. |
| July | High | U.S. summer vacation. Independence Day observed July 5, 2027. UK schools break up late in the month. |
| August | Low | Florida schools restart mid month (Orange County, August 11, 2026). Strong heat and frequent afternoon rain. |
| September | Low | School in session. Hot and wet, with the hurricane season peak on September 10. |
| October | Low, the cheapest in our table | School in session. Dry season begins, with less rain and less heat. UK half term late in the month. |
| November | Low | Driest month of the year in Orlando. The exception is Thanksgiving week (November 26, 2026). |
| December | Middle | First half with no school breaks. From December 21, U.S. and Canadian winter breaks. |

What is the most expensive month to visit Orlando?
In the table on this page, built from the real nightly rates of our homes, March was the most expensive of the next 12 months when this was written, in October 2026.
March stacks three factors. Spring breaks from many U.S. districts overlap, and in 2027 Orange County and Toronto share the same week. Easter falls at the end of the month. And the weather is among the most pleasant of the year, with an average high of 79 °F (26 °C) and about 3 inches of rain. Everyone wants to go at once, and lodging prices rise.
Two things to keep in mind when reading the table:
- A monthly average hides weeks. December, for example, mixes a quiet first half with the week between Christmas and New Year’s. A specific week can land well above or below the monthly figure. For your exact dates, run a vacation home search with your travel dates.
- Park tickets also change by date. On the official Walt Disney World site, 1 day ticket prices vary by date and park, and standard tickets require a start date at purchase. Universal Orlando says its prices and availability vary by date. In a peak month you pay more for the house and the park, so check the official price calendars before you book.
To see what goes into the total beyond the nightly rate, read how much an Orlando vacation rental costs.
Is the off season worth it with the heat and rain?
With flexible dates, it almost always is, as long as you pick the right part of it.
Late August and September: cheapest, least comfortable. Prices tend to be lowest, but the weather is toughest. Per NOAA normals, August averages 24 days at or above 90 °F (32 °C) and 11.5 days with at least a tenth of an inch of rain. September is the peak of hurricane season. It works if you handle heat, plan around the afternoon storm and watch the NHC forecast before you go.
October and early November: the best balance. Rain drops off, the heat eases and schools stay in session. Hurricane season officially runs to November 30, but the NHC notes that most activity happens between mid August and mid October. November is Orlando’s driest month, with 1.8 inches (45 mm) of rain and an average high of 78 °F (26 °C). Just avoid Thanksgiving week and, if you can, the UK half term.
Early December: a little cool, prices in check. Until U.S. winter breaks start on December 21, crowds are lighter. The average high for the month is 74 °F (23 °C), and evenings are cool.
If you are tied to a school calendar, the strategy is to pick the calmest part of peak season. If you have any choice, avoid the weeks when several calendars overlap, such as March 15 to 19, 2027 (Orange County and Toronto) and Easter week. In summer, U.S. vacation fills June and July, so compare neighboring weeks in the search before you book.
With average highs near 90 °F in August and September, being able to leave the park early in the afternoon and jump in your own pool makes a real difference. Browse vacation homes with a private pool, and for the weather month by month, see Orlando weather by month.
In practice: if your dates are flexible, open the table on this page and compare the month you want with the months on either side. Swapping the first week of April for the first week of May, or late August for early October, can change the price of the home and the crowds at the parks at the same time. For peak windows like New Year’s and spring break, book well ahead.
