How to do Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from a vacation home?
Drive to Universal's parking garages, $35 a day for standard parking, and walk through CityWalk to both parks. To ride the Hogwarts Express between Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade you need a park-to-park ticket. With kids, check heights first: minimums on the main rides run from 34 to 54 inches.

Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure sit side by side and share the same parking garages. If you are staying at a vacation home in Kissimmee, Davenport or ChampionsGate, that keeps the day simple: park once and walk to both parks.
How do you get to Universal from a vacation home?
Drive to the garages at 6000 Universal Boulevard in Orlando. They serve Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay and CityWalk. As of October 2026, Universal lists standard parking at $35 a day, tax included, and Prime parking at $50 to $60.
From the garage you walk to the gates. The main garage has moving walkways, escalators and elevators, and the route runs through CityWalk, the dining and shopping district that leads to both park entrances. Universal’s official blog suggests allowing extra time to park and walk. Universal does not publish how long the walk takes, so build some slack into the time you leave the house.
Three parking rules that help when you are staying off site:
- Leave and come back. Your car can leave and return the same day during operating hours if you show your parking receipt or QR code and a valid photo ID. That makes a lunch break and a swim at the house easy, with no second parking charge.
- Free after 6 p.m. Standard parking is free after 6 p.m., except on Halloween Horror Nights event nights and on December 31.
- Use the right address. Epic Universe has its own parking at 1001 Epic Boulevard. Do not mix the two up in your GPS.
Drive times from each area and when to leave the house are in what time to arrive at the Orlando parks. Every rate, including valet, is in how much parking costs at Disney World and Universal.
Do you need a park-to-park ticket at Universal?
You need one if you want to visit both parks on the same day or ride the Hogwarts Express. The train runs between King’s Cross Station, in the London area of Universal Studios, and Hogsmeade Station in Islands of Adventure. Universal only lets guests board with a Park-to-Park ticket or an annual pass. With a one-park-per-day ticket, you cannot ride it.
On Universal’s ticket page in October 2026, a one-day, one-park ticket started at $124.99 plus tax, with prices that vary by date. Universal also sold 3-day tickets that include Epic Universe: one park per day from $297, or two park-to-park days at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure plus one Epic Universe day from $357, both plus tax. How these compare with Disney tickets is in where to buy Disney World and Universal tickets.

What matters most with young kids:
- Under 48 inches (122 cm), a child must ride with a supervising companion who is 14 or older on most attractions, including the Hogwarts Express.
- On Minion Mayhem, guests under 40 inches (102 cm) watch from stationary seats, without the simulator motion.
- Child Swap. One adult waits with a child who cannot or does not want to ride, then the adults trade places without going through the whole line again.
- Metal detectors. VelociCoaster and Hulk allow no loose items. Lockers sit at the entrance of the bigger rides, and Universal notes that fees may apply.

How does the Wizarding World of Harry Potter work across both parks?
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is split between the two parks. Hogsmeade is in Islands of Adventure, with Hagrid’s, Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff. Diagon Alley is in Universal Studios, with Escape from Gringotts. The Hogwarts Express connects the two, which is why it is usually the reason families pay for park-to-park.
There is a third wizarding area, the Ministry of Magic, but it is in Epic Universe, a separate park with a separate ticket.
Is Epic Universe the same as Universal Studios?
No. Epic Universe is Universal Orlando’s fourth theme park. It opened on May 22, 2025, with five themed worlds, including Super Nintendo World and the Ministry of Magic. It has its own parking at a different address and its own admission, sold alone or in multi-park tickets. Hotel Express Unlimited does not apply there. Planning that day is covered in our Epic Universe guide for vacation home guests.
Should you add Volcano Bay and CityWalk?
CityWalk works any evening and needs no ticket. Volcano Bay depends on your dates. Universal’s water park has a maintenance closure scheduled to begin October 26, 2026, with a planned reopening on or before April 1, 2027, according to Universal. When it is open, you park in the dedicated Volcano Bay section and take a free shuttle to the entrance.
CityWalk has restaurants, a movie theater, two mini golf courses, escape rooms and the Hard Rock Live concert venue. On October 5, 2026, it was open from 8 a.m. to midnight. Since standard parking is free after 6 p.m. (outside the exceptions), a dinner-only night costs little.
Are Universal Express and Single Rider worth it?
Universal Express gets you into a shorter line once per participating ride and is sold separately. Express Unlimited is free only for guests of Loews Portofino Bay, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Royal Pacific Resort, and only at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Vacation home guests buy it if they want it.
Single Rider is free: at select rides, guests willing to ride apart from their group use a separate line. It suits teens and adults best. Cost, when it pays off and the limits are in is Universal Express worth it?.
Can you do both parks in one day?
Yes, with a park-to-park ticket, but it is a full day. Hours change daily: on October 5, 2026, Islands of Adventure ran from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Universal Studios from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Universal hotel guests can enter up to one hour early at select rides. A regular ticket, like the one you buy when staying at a vacation home, does not include that perk.
One-day plan with park-to-park
- Check the day’s hours and arrive before the earlier park opens. On the date above, that was Islands of Adventure.
- Head straight to Hagrid’s and Forbidden Journey, then VelociCoaster or Hulk, depending on your kids’ heights.
- Late morning, take the Hogwarts Express to Diagon Alley and ride Escape from Gringotts.
- In the afternoon, pick three or four Universal Studios rides: Mummy, MEN IN BLACK, Transformers or Simpsons.
- Have dinner at CityWalk and drive back to the house.
Two-day plan
- Day 1, Islands of Adventure: Hogsmeade early, Jurassic Park and Marvel Super Hero Island in the morning, Kong and Toon Lagoon after lunch. With park-to-park, end the day on the train.
- Day 2, Universal Studios: Diagon Alley at opening, Minion Land and DreamWorks Land with the little ones, and a midday break at the house using same-day parking re-entry.
In practice: with kids under 48 inches, plan two days and do one park per day. Arrive at opening, go back to the house for lunch and the pool, and return in the late afternoon. If nobody in your group cares about the Hogwarts Express, a one-park-per-day ticket covers it.
