The Disney marathon is really a full week of races inside Walt Disney World, run by runDisney, Disney’s race events team. Plenty of runners turn it into a family trip, and plenty of families drive down from Georgia or the Carolinas with one runner and a car full of cheerleaders. Everything below was checked on the official runDisney site in October 2026.
When is the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend in 2027?
The 2027 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend runs from Wednesday, January 6, to Sunday, January 10. 2027 marks the 30th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, and Donald Duck, the mascot of the first edition, is the theme of every race.
Wednesday is Expo day only, when runners pick up their bibs. The races run Thursday through Sunday, one per morning. For the rest of the month, including weather, crowds and other events, see what Orlando is like in January.
What races and challenges are part of Marathon Weekend?
There are four races and two challenges. A challenge means registering for more than one race on the same weekend, with an extra medal if you finish all of them on pace.
| Race | Distance | 2027 date | First start | Minimum age |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Walt Disney World 5K | 3.1 miles | Thursday, January 7 | 4:30 a.m. | 5 |
| Walt Disney World 10K | 6.2 miles | Friday, January 8 | 5:00 a.m. | 10 |
| Walt Disney World Half Marathon | 13.1 miles | Saturday, January 9 | 5:00 a.m. | 14 |
| Walt Disney World Marathon | 26.2 miles | Sunday, January 10 | 4:30 a.m. | 18 |
| Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge (half plus full) | 39.3 miles | January 9 and 10 | 5:00 and 4:30 a.m. | 18 |
| Dopey Challenge (all four races) | 48.6 miles | January 7 to 10 | 4:30 or 5:00 a.m., by day | 18 |

Kids under 14 in the 5K and 10K must be accompanied by a registered participant who is 14 or older. Every distance has a minimum pace of 16 minutes per mile, and runDisney recommends training at 15. Anyone who falls behind can be picked up and taken off the course, which is why walkers are welcome as long as they hold that pace.
Two details matter if you race seriously. runDisney says the Walt Disney World Marathon can be used as a qualifier for races such as the Boston Marathon. And proof of time was required for a better start corral if you expected to finish the full in 5:00 or less or the half in 2:30 or less, with a deadline of August 3, 2026.
How much does registration cost, and can you still sign up?
Not for 2027, at least not through runDisney. As of October 2026, the runDisney site listed every race and both challenges as sold out. Registration opened March 10, 2026, for Club runDisney Gold and Platinum members, and March 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern for everyone else.
Published prices, which include a 6.6% platform service fee:
| Registration | March 17 to September 14, 2026 | From September 15, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 5K | $125 | $135 |
| 10K | $175 | $185 |
| Half Marathon | $249 | $259 |
| Marathon | $255 | $265 |
| Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge | $495 | $505 |
| Dopey Challenge | $769 | $779 |
Entries are non-refundable and non-transferable, and you do not need a theme park ticket to race. If you still want a 2027 bib, runDisney names Blood Cancer United and its Team In Training program as the official charity for the weekend and lists other participating charities. Each charity sets its own fundraising terms.
Dates for 2028 had not been published. For reference, 2027 registration opened about ten months before race week.
What time do the races start, and how do you get there from a vacation home?
The first wave goes off at 4:30 a.m. for the 5K and the marathon and at 5:00 a.m. for the 10K and the half. In the 5K, corrals start between 4:30 and 7:30 a.m., based on the letter on your bib.
Disney transportation to the races is only for guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, Shades of Green or the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. runDisney tells everyone else to check other options, such as a private car service. From a vacation home that means driving or taking Uber or Lyft. If you are flying in, read whether you need a car in Orlando.
As of October 2026, runDisney had not yet posted race day parking and transportation for January and said details would come in the Digital Event Guide. The latest reference is the October 2026 Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend, where runDisney said:
- the EPCOT parking lot opened at 2:30 a.m. on 5K and half marathon mornings and at 3:00 a.m. on 10K morning;
- parking was free for runners and spectators arriving before 7:30 a.m.;
- 10K and half marathon runners and spectators were strongly encouraged to reach the EPCOT lot by 4:00 a.m.;
- rideshare drop-off had its own area at EPCOT.
Check the official guide for January during race week before you set your alarm.
The Expo needs its own plan. Bibs are released only to the runner, with a photo ID, and at least one day before your first race. 2027 hours: Wednesday, January 6, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Thursday, January 7, and Friday, January 8, noon to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, January 9, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dopey runners racing the Thursday 5K must pick up on Wednesday, so plan to arrive by January 5 or early on the 6th.
What other runDisney race weekends are there during the year?
Walt Disney World hosts three more race weekends besides the January marathon. These are the dates runDisney had published as of October 2026, and every race showed as sold out.
| Weekend | Dates | Races |
|---|---|---|
| Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend | October 22 to 25, 2026 | 5K, 10K, half marathon and a 10K plus half challenge |
| Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend | January 6 to 10, 2027 | 5K, 10K, half, full, Goofy and Dopey |
| Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend | February 25 to March 1, 2027 | 5K, 10K, half marathon and a 10K plus half challenge |
| runDisney Springtime Surprise Weekend | April 8 to 11, 2027 | 5K, 10K, 10-miler and a challenge with all three |
Princess weekend lands at the end of February, covered in what Orlando is like in February. Springtime Surprise is in early April, which we break down in what Orlando is like in April. Wine & Dine dates for 2027 had not been announced.
Why stay in a vacation home for Marathon Weekend?
Because a runner’s schedule is the opposite of a vacation schedule. The runner goes to bed early, wakes up before 3 a.m. and wants a familiar breakfast. Everyone else wants to sleep in and hit the parks later.
A vacation home handles that better:
- A full kitchen. Make your usual pre-race breakfast at 2:30 a.m. without hunting for something open, and cook your own pasta the night before.
- Separate bedrooms. The runner can be asleep by 8 p.m. without shushing anyone, and nobody else wakes up to a pre-dawn alarm.
- Real recovery. A couch, a long shower and a freezer full of ice. Dopey means four early mornings in a row, and a quiet afternoon nap matters.
- Laundry. Vacation homes usually have a washer and dryer (check the listing), handy for four days of race gear.
Pack a warm layer for the start. Per NOAA normals, the average January low in Orlando is 50 °F (10 °C), and a typical January has about 5 nights below 40 °F (4 °C). Start time falls right in the coldest part of the day. A heated pool is a nice bonus for recovery afternoons.
A few runDisney rules matter for your support crew. Strollers, baby joggers, baby carriers and backpacks are not allowed on the course or in the start and finish staging areas. There is no childcare at the race site, and kids under 14 cannot be left without an adult anywhere on Walt Disney World property. Costumes have limits too: guests 14 and older cannot wear costumes in the theme parks, so costumed runners need to change before a park day.

In practice: arrive by January 5, pick up your bib on the first Expo day and set out your 2:30 a.m. breakfast in the kitchen the night before your first race. Agree on a meeting spot with your family outside the finish area, and leave strollers, backpacks and extra layers in the car.
