Nobody plans a vacation around hospitals, but knowing where the closest ER is takes five minutes and saves a lot of panic if someone slips by the pool or a child spikes a fever at 2 a.m. Addresses and services below come from each hospital’s official website, checked in October 2026. This is general information, not medical advice. In an emergency, call 911.
What is the closest hospital to my vacation home?
It depends on which resort you are in. In Kissimmee, near US-192 and Celebration, three hospitals with 24 hour ERs are about 10 minutes away. In Davenport, the closest is AdventHealth Heart of Florida on US-27. ChampionsGate has no hospital, but two 24 hour freestanding ERs sit within 3 minutes of the entrance.
We measured drive times from three reference points: the Storey Lake entrance (east Kissimmee), the ChampionsGate entrance (I-4) and Posner Park (Davenport, US-27).
| Hospital | Location | 24 hour ER | Kids | From Storey Lake | From ChampionsGate | From Posner Park |

HCA Florida Osceola has a Level II Trauma Center certified by the Florida Department of Health. Dr. P. Phillips sits farther north, between Disney and International Drive, and makes more sense if you are staying in that area. To see where each resort is, check our resorts page.
Is there a 24 hour ER near ChampionsGate and Disney?
Yes. Besides the hospitals, the area has freestanding ERs: emergency departments in their own building, away from the hospital, open 24/7 with emergency physicians, lab work and CT scans. If a case needs admission or surgery, the patient is transferred to a hospital.
| Freestanding ER | Location | Kids | From Storey Lake | From ChampionsGate | From Posner Park |

One thing that matters for your wallet: Orlando Health states plainly that its freestanding ER is not an urgent care and bills at emergency department rates. If your insurance treats ER and urgent care visits differently, that difference applies here too.
Should you go to the ER or urgent care?
Anything life threatening goes to the ER or to 911. AdventHealth lists chest pain, loss of vision, numbness or slurred speech, seizures and poisoning among the reasons to go to the ER. Problems that can wait a few hours, like a sore throat, a small cut or a sprain, fit an urgent care, a walk-in clinic that usually costs less. If you are unsure, HCA runs a 24/7 nurse line, Consult-A-Nurse, at (844) 706-8773. Urgent care addresses, telehealth and costs are in urgent care in Orlando for tourists.
What about kids?
With children you have two options. The closest is the pediatric ER inside a general hospital. The other is a children’s hospital, farther away.
In the Kissimmee area, AdventHealth Celebration has a separate pediatric ER open 24 hours with 11 beds. HCA Florida Osceola also has a 24 hour children’s ER, separate from the adult one. The region’s three children’s hospitals are in Orlando:
| Children’s hospital | Location | ER | From Storey Lake | From ChampionsGate | From Posner Park |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nemours Children’s Hospital, Florida | 6535 Nemours Pkwy, Lake Nona | kids only, 24 hours | 23 min | 32 min | 36 min |
| Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children | 92 W Miller St, Orlando | pediatric, 24 hours, Level One trauma | 28 min | 34 min | 38 min |
| AdventHealth for Children | 601 E Rollins St, Orlando | kids only | 31 min | 37 min | 41 min |
Source: official Nemours, Arnold Palmer and AdventHealth websites, October 2026. OSRM drive times, no traffic, rounded up. The AdventHealth for Children page we checked does not list the ER’s hours.
Nemours says most kids are seen by a provider within 20 to 30 minutes. It also offers 24/7 video visits for non-emergencies, and your child does not need to be a Nemours patient, even if you are just in Florida on vacation.
How does 911 work in Orlando?
911 is the single US emergency number for police, fire and ambulance. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office notes that 911 calls from a cell phone are free. The dispatcher asks a lot of questions, and that does not slow help down: according to the sheriff, the dispatcher passes the information to responders while still asking. Stay calm and follow the instructions.
The first thing the dispatcher needs is where you are. So:
- Save the full address of the vacation home in every adult’s phone: house number, street, city and ZIP code.
- Write down the resort name too. If it is gated, say so on the call.
- Leave the address on a note by the door for whoever stays with the kids or the person who is sick.
Orange County accepts text messages to 911, but the county itself says a voice call is always faster. Texting is for people who cannot speak safely. Apps like WhatsApp may not work for it.
In practice: on arrival day, open your map app and pin two places: the closest 24 hour ER and the closest urgent care. Save the home address as a favorite on every phone. In an emergency, decide who stays on the line with 911 and who goes to the front door or the gate to meet the ambulance.
Will the hospital treat you without insurance?
In an emergency, yes. The federal EMTALA law, passed in 1986, requires every Medicare-participating hospital with an emergency department to screen anyone who comes in and stabilize an emergency, regardless of ability to pay. The official CMS poster says this right applies whether or not you have insurance and whether or not you are a US citizen. The hospital also cannot delay care to ask how you will pay.
The law guarantees care, not free care. The bill comes later and can be large. If you are visiting from Canada or the UK, check what your coverage pays in the US before you fly, as we explain in travel medical insurance for Orlando. If you have a US health plan, look up which of these hospitals are in network before the trip.
What should you bring to the hospital?
Bring what speeds up registration and any claim afterward:
- a photo ID for the patient (a passport for international visitors);
- your insurance card or travel insurance policy and the insurer’s phone number (HCA says registration collects your insurance card, if available);
- a list of current medications and allergies;
- a charged phone and charger.
When you leave, keep the discharge summary, prescriptions and every receipt. Your insurer will ask for them. For filling a prescription, even late at night, see pharmacies in Orlando.
Can you get help in Spanish or Portuguese?
Usually yes, through an interpreter. AdventHealth for Children says it offers interpreters 24/7 at no cost, in person and by phone. Orlando Health’s website shows a language assistance notice that lists Spanish and Portuguese. Ask for an interpreter at registration.
How long from the house to an ER?
From all three points we measured, there is a 24 hour ER within 10 minutes by car without traffic: 8 minutes from Storey Lake, 2 from ChampionsGate and 6 from Posner Park. Traffic on US-192 or I-4 adds time. For everyday safety, like cars, highways and driving at night, see is Kissimmee safe.
