Pharmacies in Orlando: 24 hour locations and over the counter medicine

Quick answer

Near the vacation home areas, the 24 hour pharmacy counters we confirmed are the Walgreens on Cypress Parkway and two CVS stores in Kissimmee. Many other stores stay open all night, but their pharmacy counter closes. Pain relievers, allergy pills and sunscreen sit on the open shelves. Paracetamol is sold here as acetaminophen.

A child running a fever at 2 am, a forgotten allergy pill, a sunburn after the first pool day. Most small health problems on an Orlando trip end at a drugstore. The catch is that a store open 24 hours does not mean the pharmacy counter inside it is open, and the difference matters when you are staying in a vacation home in Kissimmee, Davenport or near Disney.

This guide is general information, not medical advice, and it gives no doses. In an emergency, call 911.

Where is a 24 hour pharmacy near Disney and Kissimmee?

There are only a few. We checked the official Walgreens and CVS store locators on October 7, 2026. These were the only nearby locations listing both the store and the pharmacy counter as open 24 hours:

  • Walgreens, 395 Cypress Parkway, Kissimmee, at the corner of Marigold Avenue in the Poinciana area. The pharmacy closes from 1:30 to 2 am for a meal break.
  • CVS, 4500 Pleasant Hill Road, Kissimmee. The pharmacy closes for lunch from 1:30 to 2 pm.
  • CVS, 1205 W Vine Street, Kissimmee, on the stretch of US 192 inside the city. Same lunch break.
  • CVS, 7599 W Sand Lake Road, Orlando, in Dr. Phillips near International Drive. Same lunch break.

We did not find a 24 hour Walgreens or CVS pharmacy counter in Davenport, ChampionsGate or Celebration. If you are staying out there and need a prescription filled overnight, plan on driving to one of the stores above.

Here is how the stores along the vacation home corridors compare, using the hours each chain publishes.

Source: official Walgreens, CVS, Publix and Target store pages, checked October 7, 2026. Holiday hours differ. Call before you drive.

One warning about that last row. Older lists online still call the Walgreens on State Road 535 the closest 24 hour pharmacy to Disney. When we checked, its official page listed only “Store & photo” hours and no pharmacy. The CVS at 7615 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy is also open 24 hours, but its page shows no pharmacy counter.

Walmart has pharmacies in many of its stores too. Check the counter hours on the store page before you go.

What is the difference between the pharmacy counter and the store shelves?

The pharmacy counter at the back of the store is where a pharmacist fills prescriptions. The aisles hold over the counter (OTC) medicines that anyone can buy.

The FDA describes OTC drugs as medicines it has found safe and effective to use without a prescription. Every one carries a standard Drug Facts label in the same order: Active Ingredient, Purpose, Uses, Warnings, Directions, Inactive Ingredients and Other Information. Dosing and warnings live there.

Some medicines sit in between. Decongestants with pseudoephedrine do not need a prescription, but federal law keeps them behind the counter or locked up. You show a photo ID, or another document the store accepts, and the sale is logged. International visitors should bring a passport and ask at the counter.

You do not need a prescription to talk to the pharmacist. The FDA suggests asking one whenever a label leaves you unsure, including whether a new product mixes well with what you already take.

Can I fill a prescription from home in Florida?

Sometimes, and it depends on the pharmacist. Florida law lets a pharmacist accept a prescription from a practitioner licensed outside Florida only if the pharmacist judges it valid and necessary to treat a chronic or recurrent illness.

Controlled substances follow stricter federal rules. The prescriber must be authorized where they practice and registered with the DEA, so a prescription written abroad for a controlled drug cannot be filled here.

Americans traveling from another state usually have the easier path: ask your pharmacy chain before the trip whether a Florida store can transfer your prescription. Visitors from abroad should not count on a foreign prescription. If you run out or need something new, a US doctor can send a prescription straight to the pharmacy you choose. See sick on vacation in Orlando: urgent care, doctor or ER. Better still, pack enough for the whole trip, as explained in can you bring medication on your trip to Orlando.

Is paracetamol the same as acetaminophen?

Yes. Acetaminophen is the US name for paracetamol, and the FDA itself lists Tylenol, paracetamol and Panadol as names for the same ingredient. UK and Australian visitors will find it labeled acetaminophen, and pharmacy labels may shorten it to APAP.

Watch the combination products. According to the FDA, more than 600 prescription and OTC medicines contain acetaminophen, many cold and flu remedies among them. Taking one of those plus a Tylenol can double up the same ingredient, and too much can cause severe liver damage. Read the Active Ingredient line on every box before combining two products.

Visitors from Latin America or Europe sometimes look for dipyrone, also called metamizole. It is not sold in the US. The FDA withdrew all human drugs containing dipyrone in 1977 after reports of agranulocytosis, a dangerous drop in white blood cells.

If you are pregnant, ask your doctor before taking any pain reliever on the trip.

What can you buy over the counter at an Orlando pharmacy?

The usual vacation problems each have an aisle. The ingredient and brand names below come from MedlinePlus, the consumer health service of the National Institutes of Health.

  • Pain and fever: acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin).
  • Allergies: loratadine (Claritin), used for sneezing, runny nose and itchy nose, throat or eyes.
  • Motion sickness: meclizine (Bonine, Dramamine Less Drowsy). It works best taken before symptoms start, which helps before simulator rides.
  • Sun: the FDA recommends a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher, reapplied at least every two hours and more often when swimming or sweating. Ask a health care professional before using sunscreen on babies under 6 months. For a burn that already happened, ask the pharmacist. Heat brings its own risks, covered in how to avoid heat exhaustion at Orlando theme parks.
  • Mosquitoes: the CDC points to EPA registered repellents with DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE), PMD or 2-undecanone. Do not use OLE or PMD on children under 3. With sunscreen, apply sunscreen first and repellent second.
  • Emergency contraception: Plan B One-Step and its generics have been approved for nonprescription use with no age restriction since 2013, according to the FDA.

Children’s versions come with their own dosing by age or weight in the Directions section. The FDA’s advice is never to guess. If your child’s age or weight is not on the label, ask the pharmacist.

If a child swallows medicine by accident, Poison Help at 1-800-222-1222 is free, open 24 hours and offers interpreters. If the child has trouble breathing or collapses, call 911.

Sunscreen, repellent and basic first aid also turn up at the grocery store. See where to buy groceries near Orlando vacation rentals.

In practice: on arrival day, save the address and phone number of the nearest 24 hour pharmacy counter and of one pharmacy on your route to the parks. At night, call first to confirm the counter is open, since it closes for a half hour meal break. Bring your ID and the box of any medicine you use at home so the pharmacist can see the active ingredient.
