What to do in Orlando without kids?

Quick answer

Without kids, Orlando becomes a different trip: ride the most intense coasters, like VelociCoaster and Stardust Racers, sip your way through EPCOT festivals (21 and over only), brave Halloween Horror Nights and spend evenings at CityWalk and Disney Springs. Add golf, a spa day and a smaller vacation home with a private pool.

Orlando sells itself as a family destination, but couples, groups of friends and honeymooners get a very different city. With no kids along, you stop planning around height limits, naps and bedtime. That frees up time for the big rides, the food and drink festivals and the nightlife.

What are the best Orlando theme parks for adults?

If you want thrills, the Universal parks have the most intense coasters, and EPCOT is the Disney park adults tend to love most, for the food and drinks. Islands of Adventure has Jurassic World VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. Epic Universe, which opened on May 22, 2025, has Stardust Racers and Monsters Unchained. At Disney, the big thrill rides are spread across all four parks.

The table lists the rides adults ask about most, with the minimum height each park publishes. Height will not stop an adult, but it works as a rough gauge: the higher the requirement, the more intense the ride usually is.

For adults, the rules that actually matter are about body size and pockets. Universal’s guides warn that the restraints on VelociCoaster, Hagrid’s and Stardust Racers may not fit some guests because of body shape or size, and there is a test seat at the entrance. VelociCoaster, the Hulk and Stardust Racers also require you to walk through a metal detector, since loose items are strictly prohibited. Phones, keys and wallets go in a locker before you join the line.

Disney describes Cosmic Rewind as one of the largest fully enclosed coasters in the world, with the first reverse launch on a Disney coaster. If Epic Universe is new to you, the Epic Universe guide walks through the day.

Can you drink at the Orlando theme parks?

Yes, if you are 21 or older. Florida law makes it illegal for anyone under 21 to possess alcohol, and that includes international visitors. Disney serves alcohol only to guests 21 and older with a valid ID, with a limit of two drinks per ID. At CityWalk, Universal states the same rule: 21 and older with valid identification to buy or drink. Bring a photo ID even if you clearly look older.

EPCOT is where adults get the most out of this. World Showcase brings together 11 countries around the lagoon, each with its own food and drinks. The park also runs a festival for most of the year, with booths selling dishes and drinks you only find during those weeks.

The one kid-free travelers ask about most is the food and wine festival, covered in detail in the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival guide.

Is Halloween Horror Nights for adults?

It is the Orlando event built most squarely for adults. In 2026 it runs on 49 select nights from August 28 to November 1 at Universal Studios Florida. Universal announced 10 haunted houses and 4 outdoor scare zones for this edition. It requires a separate ticket from your day ticket.

One budget note: Universal’s free parking after 6 pm does not apply on Halloween Horror Nights event nights. Everything else about the event is in the Halloween Horror Nights guide.

What to do in Orlando at night as a couple?

The two hubs for a night out without a park ticket are Universal CityWalk and Disney Springs. Both are free to enter.

Universal CityWalk. Universal says you can enter CityWalk without a park admission ticket. Its official guide lists bars and nightclubs such as Pat O’Brien’s, with dueling pianos, Red Coconut Club, with two floors for music and dancing, and Rising Star, with karaoke backed by a live band. Hard Rock Live hosts concerts and comedians. Standard self-parking is free after 6 pm, except on Halloween Horror Nights event nights, on December 31 and at Epic Universe.

Disney Springs. This is Disney’s shopping, dining and entertainment district, and standard self-parking is complimentary. For an adult evening, think Drawn to Life presented by Cirque du Soleil and Disney, Wine Bar George, Splitsville Luxury Lanes for bowling and the AMC dine-in theater. If you drove down from Georgia or the Carolinas, your own car makes this an easy night.

Beyond those two, Orlando has dining experiences, rooftop bars and dinner shows all over town. Menus, hours and prices change often, so check each venue’s own website before you book. More ideas are in things to do in Orlando at night.

Can you play golf or book a spa day in Orlando?

Yes, and you do not even have to leave Disney property. Walt Disney World has four courses: Magnolia, Palm, Lake Buena Vista and Oak Trail. Oak Trail is a 9-hole, par 36 walking course. Magnolia has water hazards on 11 of its 18 holes and was extensively reimagined in 2023, according to Disney. Courses across the rest of the area are in where to play golf near Orlando.

For a spa day, Disney’s official list includes The Grand Floridian Spa and Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin. Book ahead and confirm access rules directly with the spa.

How to plan an Orlando honeymoon?

An Orlando honeymoon works best when park days alternate with free days. Four parks in a row will wear out any couple. A pace that works for one week:

  • Day 1: arrive, stock up on groceries, pool time.
  • Days 2 and 3: Universal, with VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s one day and Epic Universe the next.
  • Day 4: rest at the house, spa or golf, then dinner at Disney Springs.
  • Days 5 and 6: EPCOT, ideally during a festival, plus one more Disney park.
  • Day 7: free day, with a night at CityWalk.

If your dates are flexible, line the trip up with the festival calendar above. A fall wedding pairs well with Food & Wine, which runs through November 21, 2026.

In practice: in each park, head first to the ride you both want most and save the calmer attractions for the afternoon. Before the VelociCoaster or Stardust Racers line, put everything in a locker so the metal detector does not slow you down.

What kind of vacation rental works for couples or friends?

For two people, a smaller vacation home with 1 or 2 bedrooms is usually enough, and a private pool makes the biggest difference. The median nightly rate for Orlando Best Place homes with 1 to 2 bedrooms over the next 12 months, before cleaning and taxes, is $139.

What a vacation home gives couples and groups of friends:

  • A pool just for you, with no fighting over lounge chairs.
  • Quiet and your own schedule. Coming back from Halloween Horror Nights in the small hours and sleeping in bothers no one.
  • A kitchen. Breakfast with no line and a dinner in between two nights out.
  • A shared bill. Two couples in a bigger home split the nightly rate and still get a living room and outdoor space together.
