How to get from Orlando airport to your vacation home?

Quick answer

The easiest way is to pick up a rental car at Orlando International Airport (MCO) and drive 30 to 50 minutes, without traffic, to Kissimmee, ChampionsGate or Davenport on cashless toll roads. Uber, Lyft and taxis pick up at the terminal curb. LYNX buses do not reach the resorts, and the Mears Connect shuttle only serves Disney area hotels.

You have landed, you have your bags, and there is one leg left: the airport to the house. Settle it before you fly and you skip the curbside guesswork with tired kids and a pile of luggage.

Which Orlando airport is closest to Kissimmee and Disney?

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest airport with airline service to the vacation home resorts. It sits south of Orlando, about half an hour by car from Kissimmee and the Disney area without traffic. The other one is Orlando Sanford (SFB), farther north and much farther from the homes. More on it at the end.

MCO has three terminals. A and B share one building. Terminal C, the newest, is to the south and linked to A and B by a 4 minute people mover. According to the airport, British Airways, Aer Lingus, Icelandair, JetBlue, Lufthansa and Norse operate from Terminal C, and international arrivals there collect their bags before passport control (“Bags First”). Check your terminal on the boarding pass, because rental car, rideshare and taxi pickup all change by terminal.

How far is Kissimmee from Orlando airport?

About 30 to 50 minutes by car without traffic, depending on where the home is. The table shows routes calculated with OSRM, a routing engine built on OpenStreetMap data, from Terminals A and B and from Terminal C. Distances and times are rounded up.

Both roads belong to the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX), and neither takes cash. Tolls are charged by transponder or by a photo of the plate, so decide how you will pay before you leave the garage. The Visitor Toll Pass, a temporary pass for rental cars, is picked up on Level 1 of Terminals A and B or on Level 4 of Terminal C, and the airport says you must decline the rental company’s toll program. The details are in how tolls work in Orlando.

What is the best way to get from the airport to a vacation home?

For a vacation home stay, a rental car picked up at the airport is usually the best choice, because you will need it all week. If you are not driving, you have Uber, Lyft, taxis and private transfers. The table shows the approximate rates the airport itself publishes.

OptionKissimmee hotels areaDisney resorts areaHow it is charged
Taxi$45 to $75$52 to $68per cab, by meter, up to 9 people
Shuttle van$29/$49$23/$37per person
LYNX bus$2$4per person

Source: Orlando International Airport approximate rates table, checked in October 2026.

These rates are for hotel areas. Homes in ChampionsGate and Davenport are farther out, so the meter will likely run past them, and the airport does not allow flat taxi fares. For shuttle vans, ask the attendant about round trip and child fares and whether the van goes to your resort address.

Rental car. At Terminals A and B, cars are in the terminal garage on Level R1 or R2, depending on the company. At Terminal C, they are in Parking Garage C, on Level C1 or C2. Off-airport companies pick up by shuttle on Level 1. Which car to rent and park fees are covered in do you need a car in Orlando.

Uber and Lyft. At Terminals A and B, pickup is on the Arrivals Curb, Level 2, 24 hours a day, and from 9 pm to 2 am also on the Departures Curb, Level 3. At Terminal C, it is the Arrivals Curb, Level 6. Price the ride in the app before you fly, using the home address, and remember that a family with lots of luggage needs an XL car. More in is Uber worth it in Orlando.

Taxi. Taxis wait on Level 1 at Terminal A (spaces A22 to A25) and Terminal B (spaces B30 to B34), and on Level 6 at Terminal C. A cab carries up to 9 people for the same fare, which helps groups.

Private transfer. This is for a driver waiting for you, a vehicle sized for your group and a car seat arranged ahead. The airport publishes a list of companies permitted to pick up pre-arranged passengers. Check that yours is on it and get the car seat confirmed in writing.

Mears Connect. This is the shared shuttle between the airport and Disney: $16 one way for ages 10 and up and $13 for ages 3 to 9, plus a 10% fee and a 6% fuel surcharge. It serves more than 40 hotels at Walt Disney World and Disney Springs, and vacation homes are not on the list. The old Sunshine Flyer web address now redirects to Mears Connect.

Bus and train. Neither reaches the resorts. LYNX route 311 runs to the Disney area near Bonnet Creek Parkway, and FastLink 407 runs to Kissimmee Intermodal Station downtown, only in a few time windows and never on Sunday. Brightline leaves the airport for Miami, and SunRail has no direct airport link yet.

Do you need a car seat leaving the airport?

Yes, if you are driving. Florida law requires a child restraint through age 5. Through age 3, it must be a separate carrier or the vehicle’s integrated child seat. Ages 4 and 5 can also use a booster seat. A violation is a moving violation with 3 points on the license.

The law exempts taxis, limousines, vans and other vehicles with a hired driver, but that does not make the ride safer. In a taxi or rideshare, bring your own seat. For a transfer, book one with it.

With a rental car, Alamo, for example, guarantees car seat reservations at US airport locations for a daily charge, and installing it is the renter’s job. You can also fly with your own after checking with the airline. More tips in what is Orlando like with a baby.

What if your flight lands at night?

A late arrival works fine if transport and entry to the house are sorted before you fly. Uber and Lyft pick up at any hour at Terminals A and B. The last LYNX 311 trip toward Disney finishes before 11 pm.

Groceries are the bigger issue. According to their websites, Publix Champions Gate Village (8301 Champions Gate Blvd) is open 7 am to 10 pm, and Target Kissimmee West on US 192 is open 8 am to 11 pm. Land at 9 pm, clear the airport and drive 40 minutes, and the store may be closed. Pack basics for the first night in your carry-on and leave the big shop for the next day. Stores near each area are in where to buy groceries near Orlando vacation rentals.

Keep the full address, door code and resort gate instructions handy, as we explain in how check-in works at an Orlando vacation rental. Orlando Best Place offers 24/7 support in English, Portuguese and Spanish on WhatsApp at +1 (407) 719-1493.

In practice: if you land after 8 pm, book the rental car at your arrival terminal and reserve the Visitor Toll Pass in its app before you fly, then load the home address into the GPS while still in the garage. Pack water, milk and snacks for the kids in your carry-on. Groceries can wait until morning.

What about Orlando Sanford airport (SFB)?

Orlando Sanford is north of the city, about an hour or more by car from the homes without traffic. According to the airport, Allegiant, Arajet and Sun Country (seasonal or charter) fly there, and BermudAir starts service in October 2026.

From Sanford (SFB) toDistance and time, no traffic
Disney Springs44 mi (70 km), 61 min
Storey Lake (Kissimmee)51 mi (81 km), 62 min
ChampionsGate58 mi (93 km), 68 min
Davenport (Posner Park)63 mi (101 km), 75 min

The fastest routes use SR 417, also a toll road. At Sanford, rideshare, taxis and pre-arranged shuttles pick up across the street from baggage claim areas 1 to 3, and rental cars are in the Welcome Center, also across the street. Mears Connect does not serve Sanford.
