What is Orlando like with a baby?

Quick answer

Orlando works well with a baby. At Disney, children under 3 do not need a park ticket, and all four parks have a free Baby Care Center. Many rides have no height minimum, Rider Switch lets adults take turns, and Florida law requires a car seat through age 5. Plan around naps and midday heat.

A baby will not ride everything in Orlando, but a baby can enjoy far more than most parents expect. Park rules, Florida’s car seat law and the heat shape the plan, and almost all of it can be sorted out before you leave home. This guide covers babies from newborn to age 2. For the next stage, read Orlando with toddlers.

Do babies need a ticket for Disney World and Universal?

No. At Disney, children under 3 do not need a ticket to enter the theme parks, according to an April 2026 answer on planDisney, Disney’s official Q&A panel. Your baby goes through the turnstile in your arms or in the stroller, with an adult who has a ticket. The same answer reminds you to still count the baby on hotel and dining reservations.

Universal’s official ticket store sells only two categories: adult, ages 10 and up, and child, ages 3 to 9. There is no ticket for kids under 3. So the baby stays out of the ticket math, but not out of the rest of the budget: food, diapers, a stroller and room in the car.

What can you do in Orlando with a baby?

Do the parks at baby pace: arrive early, see the gentle rides in the morning and head back before the worst of the heat. Disney’s parks have a long list of attractions labeled “Any Height,” meaning no height minimum. That does not mean every baby can ride everything. At Disney, children under 7 must board with someone 14 or older, and the ride attendant has the final say.

At Universal, the official safety guide has its own rules for babies in arms. Many rides state “No hand-held infants. No lap sitting,” and several require riders to sit upright on their own. Check each ride’s listing before you get in line.

Outside the parks, babies tend to love simple things: the pool with mom or dad, a stroller walk in the late afternoon and, when a storm rolls in, somewhere indoors. Ideas are in things to do in Orlando on a rainy day.

How does Rider Switch work?

Rider Switch is Disney’s free way for adults to take turns on the same ride. Tell the Cast Member at the entrance, and your group splits. One part waits in line and rides while the other stays outside with the baby. When the first group is done, up to 2 people from the second group board through a separate entrance without waiting in the standby line again, per Disney’s official page.

Universal calls its version Child Swap. One adult waits with the child in a designated area, then the adults trade places.

Where can you change diapers and nurse in the parks?

At Disney, in the Baby Care Centers. All four theme parks have one. They are free, open during park hours, and include a nursing room with chairs, changing tables, restrooms, a feeding area with high chairs and a kitchenette with a microwave and sink. They also sell diapers, wipes, baby food, formula, sunscreen and over the counter medicine, subject to availability. Strollers stay parked outside, and the Disney app map shows each location.

At Universal, nursing facilities are inside the First Aid stations, which are staffed by registered nurses and paramedics, according to the official guide. The parks also have family restrooms, listed in the Universal app.

Can you bring a stroller to Disney World?

Yes, as long as it fits. Disney’s park rules ban strollers wider than 31 inches (79 cm) or longer than 52 inches (132 cm), and ban stroller wagons. Bags and coolers must be no larger than 24 x 15 x 18 inches. Small baby food jars are an exception to the glass ban. Loose ice and dry ice are not allowed, so pack reusable ice packs.

If you would rather not haul your own, you can rent at the parks. At Disney, a single stroller is $15 a day and a double is $31, with lower rates for multi day rentals. At Universal, rentals are $40 a day including tax. A park rental stays in the park, though, so it does not help at the house or the airport. For the rest of the trip, local baby gear rental companies rent strollers, travel cribs, high chairs and car seats and deliver to your address. Compare cleaning, delivery and pickup terms before you book.

Do you need a car seat in Florida?

Yes. Florida Statute 316.613 requires an approved child restraint for every child 5 and younger. Through age 3, it has to be a separate carrier or the vehicle’s built-in child seat. A violation is a moving violation with 3 points on the driver’s license, and the law puts the responsibility on the parent. Chauffeur-driven hired vehicles such as taxis and limousines are exempt, but your baby’s safety does not change with the type of car.

If you are driving down from Georgia or the Carolinas, your own seat comes with you. If you are flying in, rental companies rent car seats by the day. At Alamo, for example, a car seat reservation is guaranteed at U.S. airport locations, and installing it is the renter’s job. Orlando nearly requires a car, so read do you need a car in Orlando.

What should you know about flying with a baby?

Two rules make it easier. Children under 2 may fly on a parent’s lap, but the FAA says the safest place for them is an approved child restraint in their own seat, for the entire flight. At security, TSA allows formula, breast milk and baby food in carry-ons in quantities over 3.4 ounces. Tell the officer at the start of screening. Strollers and car seats go through the X-ray.

How do you protect a baby from Orlando’s heat and sun?

Shade, light clothing and fluids all day. The American Academy of Pediatrics says to keep babies younger than 6 months out of direct sunlight. If shade and protective clothing are not available, use sunscreen on small areas like the face. From 6 months, use broad spectrum SPF 15 to 50 and reapply every 2 hours. Limit sun time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The CDC warns that a parked car can heat up almost 20 °F (11 °C) in 10 minutes, even with a window cracked. Never leave a baby in the car, not even for a minute.

Where do you take a sick baby in Orlando?

In an emergency, call 911. Near Kissimmee, AdventHealth Celebration (400 Celebration Place) has an ER just for kids, with its own entrance. In Lake Nona, Nemours Children’s Hospital (6535 Nemours Parkway) runs a 24/7 pediatric emergency department. For minor issues, the Nemours pediatric urgent care on Narcoossee Road sees newborns up to age 18, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. on weekends. Bring your insurance card, and if you are visiting from abroad, get travel insurance that covers the baby.

Is a vacation home or a hotel better with a baby?

With a baby, a vacation home usually wins. You get a kitchen to sterilize bottles and make baby food, a washer and dryer for clothes that need changing three times a day, and a separate bedroom for naps. The adults can talk in the living room without waking anyone. The full comparison is in vacation home vs hotel in Orlando.

Ask two questions before you book. First, does the home have a crib and a high chair, and what condition are they in? The American Academy of Pediatrics says babies should sleep on their backs, on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or play yard, with no pillows or loose bedding. Second, ask about the pool. According to the CDC, more children ages 1 to 4 die from drowning than from any other cause. Read how to keep kids safe at a vacation rental pool and ask whether the home has a pool fence or alarm.

In practice: split each park day in two. Park from 9 a.m. to noon, then lunch and a nap at the house, and go back for fireworks only if the baby naps well. A home a few minutes from Disney is what makes that round trip realistic.
