According to the National Weather Service office in Melbourne, which covers Orlando, the July record high is 101 °F (38 °C), set on July 28, 1936, and again on July 2, 1998. The warmest July on record was 2024, with an average temperature of 85.5 °F (29.7 °C). July 2026 came in just behind at 85.2 °F (29.6 °C).

How hot does it feel in Orlando in July?
Hotter than the thermometer says, because of the humidity. The National Weather Service uses the heat index, which combines temperature and humidity into how hot it actually feels. The index assumes shade. In full sun, it can be up to 15 °F higher.
The NWS Melbourne office issues a Heat Advisory when the heat index is expected to reach 108 °F to 112 °F. At 113 °F or higher, it issues an Extreme Heat Warning. On those days, check the forecast before you leave and cut down on time standing in sunny lines.
Does it rain every day in Orlando in July?
Almost. About 17 days in July get some rain, mostly from thunderstorms. The NWS office in Tampa Bay says Florida’s thunderstorm season peaks from July through early September.
The NWS Melbourne office puts it plainly: July is the month for lightning in Florida. Warm coastal waters and strong summer sun push the sea breezes from both coasts inland as the day goes on, and they collide over the middle of the peninsula, right where Orlando sits. That is where the storms build. The same office calls central Florida the lightning capital of the United States, counts 80 to 90 thunderstorm days a year in the Orlando area, and notes that Florida has more lightning casualties than any other state.
The lightning rule
National Weather Service guidance comes down to three points:
- When thunder roars, go indoors. Lightning can strike up to 10 miles from a storm.
- Real shelter is a fully enclosed building or a hard-top vehicle.
- Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder before heading back outside.
That includes the pool at your vacation home. At the first rumble, everyone out of the water.
Do Orlando theme parks close for lightning?
Outdoor attractions and water parks can shut down when storms roll in. Disney says its water parks may close because of inclement weather, and that temporary, same-day closures can happen with little notice and won’t show up on the park calendar.
SeaWorld Orlando’s weather policy lists rides closed for lightning, wind, heat or rain. If rides stay closed for more than 60 minutes, if the heat index hits 110 °F, or if the park closes early, a standard admission ticket qualifies for a free return visit, requested within one week. Pass members and complimentary tickets are excluded. Policy checked in October 2026.
