How to make the most of Hollywood Studios from a vacation home?

Quick answer

Driving in from a vacation home, you pay $35 for standard parking, good all day at all four Disney parks. You don't get the 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry Disney hotel guests get, and you can buy Lightning Lane 3 days out. No virtual queues are in use. Start at Galaxy's Edge or Toy Story Land and end with Fantasmic!.

Hollywood Studios is the Disney World park for Star Wars, Toy Story, Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. If you’re staying in a vacation home in Kissimmee or Davenport, maybe after a long drive down I-75 or I-95, you’ll arrive by car and play by slightly different rules than guests at a Disney hotel. Everything below was checked on Disney’s official sites in October 2026.

How much is parking at Hollywood Studios?

Standard parking is $35 per day for a car or motorcycle, tax included. Preferred parking, closer to the entrance, is $50, $55 or $60 depending on the date.

One payment covers the whole day at all four Disney theme parks, so Hollywood Studios in the morning and EPCOT in the evening means one fee. Trams run from the lot to the entrance, and the My Disney Experience app has a free car locator that saves where you parked.

One catch for vacation rental guests: Disney says paying for parking does not guarantee a spot if you leave and come back to the same park later in the day. We compare Disney and Universal rates in how much parking costs at Disney World and Universal.

Do vacation home guests get early entry at Hollywood Studios?

No. The 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry is only for guests of Disney Resort hotels and a short list of partner hotels. Vacation homes in Kissimmee, Davenport and Orlando are not on that list.

So when you scan in at official opening time, those hotel guests have already been inside for half an hour, and Disney plans to run all nine rides in the table below during that window. Lines at the big rides start building before you get in. Work out your departure time with what time to arrive at the Orlando parks.

What are the lands and headliner rides at Hollywood Studios?

Rides and shows sit in six lands: Hollywood Boulevard, Echo Lake, Sunset Boulevard, Animation Courtyard, Toy Story Land and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The most popular rides are in three of them.

  • Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, a huge attraction that Disney says uses several ride systems, and Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, where you fly the ship. Since May 22, 2026, the Smugglers Run mission features The Mandalorian and Grogu.
  • Toy Story Land has the family coaster Slinky Dog Dash, the 4D shooting game Toy Story Mania! and the spinning Alien Swirling Saucers.
  • Sunset Boulevard has The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, the drop ride in a haunted elevator, and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, an indoor coaster with three inversions.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, with no height requirement, is on Hollywood Boulevard. Star Tours is in Echo Lake.

What changed at Hollywood Studios in 2026?

These are the changes Disney has announced:

  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets opened May 26, 2026, replacing the Aerosmith version. From November 4, 2026 to January 6, 2027, it runs a holiday overlay.
  • The Magic of Disney Animation opened in Animation Courtyard, with character photo spots at Off the Page!, the Olaf Draws drawing class and Drawn to Wonderland, a play area inspired by Alice in Wonderland concept art.
  • Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! is the new Disney Jr. stage show, also in Animation Courtyard.
  • Grand Avenue is closed. Muppet*Vision 3D’s last day was June 7, 2025, and the area is now a construction site for Monstropolis, the Monsters, Inc. land. At D23 in August 2026, Disney said parts of Monstropolis will open in 2027. No date yet.

Does Hollywood Studios use a virtual queue?

No. As of October 2026, Disney’s official page says no virtual queues are in use at Walt Disney World. Rise of the Resistance, which used to require one, now runs a regular standby line plus Lightning Lane Single Pass.

Disney says it may bring virtual queues back for new openings. The day before your visit, check the Virtual Queue tile in the My Disney Experience app.

What are the height requirements at Hollywood Studios?

Height requirements run from 32 to 48 inches on the rides that have one, and two headliners have none. The table uses Disney’s official attraction pages and the Lightning Lane type Disney lists for each ride.

Measure your kids before the trip. Under 40 inches rules out Rise of the Resistance, Tower of Terror and Star Tours. Under 48 inches rules out Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

How does Lightning Lane work at Hollywood Studios?

Lightning Lane is Disney’s paid shorter line. At Hollywood Studios, Rise of the Resistance is Single Pass only, sold separately. With Multi Pass you book up to three rides with return windows: no more than one from tier 1 (Runaway Railway, Smugglers Run, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster and Slinky Dog Dash) and the rest from tier 2, which includes Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania!, Star Tours, Alien Swirling Saucers and the stage shows. After you use the first one, you can book another, subject to availability.

Vacation home guests can buy 3 days before the park day, starting at 7 a.m. Eastern. Disney hotel guests can buy 7 days before their stay. That means the best return times for Slinky Dog Dash and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster can be gone before your window opens. We weigh cost and strategy in is Lightning Lane worth it.

In practice: set an alarm for 7 a.m. Eastern three days before your Hollywood Studios day. From tier 1, pick whichever your group wants most between Slinky Dog Dash and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. For Rise of the Resistance, decide ahead of time whether you’ll pay for Single Pass or hit the standby line right at opening.

What shows and nighttime show does Hollywood Studios have?

There are two nighttime shows, Fantasmic! and Wonderful World of Animation. During the day, the stage shows double as a sit-down break.

  • Fantasmic! is the big evening show, with water, light, pyrotechnics and the Disney Villains, in an amphitheater on Sunset Boulevard. It runs 30 minutes. Disney lets guests in up to 90 minutes early, warns that the first rows may get wet, and may cancel the show in bad weather.
  • Wonderful World of Animation is a 12-minute projection show on the Chinese Theatre facade on Hollywood Boulevard, covering more than 90 years of Disney and Pixar films.
  • Daytime shows: Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! (30 minutes), Beauty and the Beast Live on Stage (30 minutes), For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration (30 minutes), The Little Mermaid, A Musical Adventure (20 minutes), Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After (18 minutes) and Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! (20 minutes).

Showtimes change daily, so check the app. Nighttime shows at the other parks are in Disney World and Universal fireworks shows.

What is Disney Jollywood Nights?

It’s the Hollywood Studios holiday party, a separate ticket that runs 7:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The 2026 season dates are November 7, 14, 16, 21, 23 and 28, December 5, 7, 12, 14, 19, 21 and 23, and January 3 and 5, 2027. Tickets cost $169 to $199 plus tax, with $10 off for kids 3 to 9. You don’t need a regular park ticket that day, and you can enter from 5:30 p.m. The rest of the season is in what Christmas in Orlando is like.

How do you plan a Hollywood Studios day from a vacation home?

A simple plan for a family arriving by car:

  1. Before opening: leave the house with time to park, ride the tram and clear security.
  2. First hour: head straight to the most popular ride that isn’t in your Lightning Lane plan. For many families that’s Rise of the Resistance. With young kids, Slinky Dog Dash.
  3. Late morning: use your Multi Pass return times and add Toy Story Mania! or Runaway Railway.
  4. Midday: two stage shows back to back, sitting down during the hottest hours.
  5. Afternoon: Tower of Terror, Star Tours and anything you missed. Book new Lightning Lanes as you use the earlier ones.
  6. Evening: Fantasmic! or Wonderful World of Animation, then back to the car.

If you want a pool break in the afternoon, remember a parking spot isn’t guaranteed when you return. To keep the daily drive short, browse our vacation homes near Disney.
