What is spring break like in Orlando?

Spring break is the reason Orlando feels so different from one March week to the next. It drives park crowds, it drives lodging prices, and once you know how the school calendars line up, it tells you which weeks are worth aiming for.

What is spring break?

Spring break is the week off that US schools and colleges give students in spring, somewhere between the end of winter and the end of the school year. There is no national date. Each school district picks its own week, which is why spring break in Orlando is not one peak but a series of waves.

Other countries have their own version. Ontario, Canada, has March Break. In England, the spring pause is the Easter holidays, and GOV.UK sends families to their local council for the dates. In Mexico, the SEP (the federal education ministry) sets a school vacation that lines up with Holy Week in 2027. All of these families are after the same thing: sunshine, a pool and the parks while it is still cold back home.

When is spring break 2027?

In practice, from early March to the end of April. Easter falls on March 28, 2027. GOV.UK lists Good Friday on March 26 and Easter Monday on March 29, and under the U.S. Naval Observatory’s rule Palm Sunday falls a week before Easter, on March 21. The waves are easy to see. The week of March 15 stacks Central Florida’s own schools with Dallas and Toronto. The week of March 22 stacks Miami, Chicago, the start of Mexico’s vacation and Holy Week. Friday, March 26 is a day off in eight of the ten calendars above. After Easter, families on Gwinnett’s calendar drive down in early April, and New York City closes out the season at the end of the month.

Neighboring districts often pick different weeks, so treat the table as a sample. If you are driving down from Georgia or the Carolinas, check your own district first. The county next door may be off on a different week.

How crowded are the Orlando parks during spring break?

Very. Spring break ranks among the busiest stretches of the year at the Orlando parks, alongside the week between Christmas and New Year’s. The difference is length. Instead of one short peak, high crowds run for weeks, with a few lighter days in between.

How far in advance should you book for spring break?

As soon as your dates are set. The 2027 school calendars are already published, so families across the US and Canada already know their week. The earlier you book, the more homes you will have to choose from, especially if you need a lot of bedrooms.

Park deadlines matter too. At Disney, guests of Disney Resort hotels and some select hotels can buy Lightning Lane passes, the paid line skip, 7 days before their stay begins. How to make the most of Orlando over spring break

Pick your week from the calendars, then plan in two gears: parks on weekdays, downtime at the house.

• Avoid the overlap. Among the calendars above, nobody is on break from March 1 to 5 or from April 12 to 21. If your dates are flexible, compare those windows.
• Do the busiest park midweek. Save your top park for Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, away from the weekends that bracket the break weeks in the table.

In practice: if Orlando’s own spring break week of March 15 is your only option, buy date-based tickets, plan your two biggest park days for Tuesday the 16th and Wednesday the 17th, and keep the weekends for the house. If you can move, April 12 to 16 has none of the districts in the table on break.

Is spring break in Orlando a party scene?

Not really. The college party image of spring break comes from beach towns. Orlando sits inland, in the middle of Central Florida, and what draws people here in March and April is the theme parks.

The calendars that move the city in spring belong to elementary, middle and high schools, which means parents traveling with kids. College students get spring break too, and some come to the parks, but spring break in Orlando is first and foremost a family spring break.
