What is New Year's Eve in Orlando like?

Quick answer

Last New Year's Eve, Orlando had midnight fireworks inside the parks and at free events in Kissimmee and on International Drive. Florida law allows consumer fireworks on December 31 and January 1, but a recorded HOA covenant, local rules and county burn bans can still ban them.

In 2026, New Year’s Eve falls on a Thursday and New Year’s Day 2027 on a Friday, so the holiday turns into a four day weekend for a lot of families. In Orlando you have three basic options for midnight: a theme park, a public party outside the parks, or the vacation home with your own crowd. Each one plays by different rules, especially when it comes to fireworks.

One caveat first. As of October 2026, most venues had not yet published their December 31, 2026 plans. The examples below come from New Year’s Eve 2025, the most recent one with official details. Visit Orlando, the city’s tourism bureau, usually updates its New Year’s guide in December.

Where can you see New Year’s Eve fireworks in Orlando?

Inside the parks is the surest bet. Last year there were also free fireworks at entertainment districts outside them.

SeaWorld is the one confirmed so far. Its event page already promises to ring in 2027 with fireworks on December 31, as part of the Christmas Celebration (select dates November 6, 2026 to January 4, 2027).

Disney has not announced its December 31, 2026 plans or any separately ticketed New Year’s party. At Disney Springs, Visit Orlando listed a paid 21 and over party at House of Blues last year.

Universal CityWalk, the dining and nightlife district at the park entrance, throws the resort’s best known party, with DJs, a live band and the midnight countdown.

We cannot recommend watching park fireworks from a road shoulder or a parking lot. We found no official source that designates spots for it.

Is New Year’s Eve in Orlando good with kids?

Yes, if you plan around bedtime. LEGOLAND Florida ran its fireworks well before midnight last year, built for young kids and included with admission. The free street party at Promenade at Sunset Walk was billed as all ages.

For families with toddlers, the vacation home is often the easiest call. Orlando is on Eastern time, the same as New York, so the Times Square ball drops on TV right at your midnight. The ball is raised at 6 p.m., which gives younger kids an early countdown of their own before bed.

Can you set off fireworks at a vacation rental on New Year’s Eve?

Under state law, December 31 is allowed. The HOA’s recorded covenants, the home’s rules and a county burn ban can all still say no.

What Florida law says

Since 2020, section 791.08 of the Florida Statutes has named three “designated holidays”: January 1, July 4 and December 31. On those days, the fireworks chapter does not prohibit using fireworks, as long as it happens solely during the holiday. The 2026 text is unchanged from 2020.

The law sets three limits of its own:

  1. Local rules still apply. The section says it does not supersede local government regulation of fireworks.
  2. The recorded HOA covenants count. If a fireworks ban is written into the community’s declaration of covenants, state law does not override it.
  3. A standalone board rule does not. An HOA may not adopt a rule just to take away a homeowner’s right to use fireworks on the designated holidays.

What matters is where the ban is written. This part of the law covers associations governed by chapter 720, which deals with homeowners’ associations. Each resort has its own covenants, and as a guest you have no practical way to check them yourself.

Sparklers approved by the Division of the State Fire Marshal are not “fireworks” under the legal definition in section 791.01.

A dry spell can ban everything

Counties declare burn bans when conditions get dry.

  • Polk County, home to Davenport: its ban prohibits noncommercial fireworks but not professional shows. It was in effect over New Year’s 2025 to 2026, covering unincorporated Polk and cities including Davenport and Haines City. Violations carry a fine of up to $500, up to 60 days in jail, or both. Polk sets the ban using the Keetch-Byram Drought Index, a 0 to 800 scale of soil dryness.
  • Osceola County, home to Kissimmee: the county posts whether a burn ban is in effect for unincorporated areas on its current conditions page, along with the drought index.

And at the vacation home?

On top of state and county rules, the house and resort rules are part of your booking. Before you buy anything, ask our team what applies to that home that year. Even where fireworks are allowed, keep them well away from the roof, a pool full of people and the neighbors’ homes.

Is it worth spending New Year’s Eve inside a theme park?

It is if you want the full party and can handle crowds. With small kids or grandparents, a night at the house is usually easier.

For it: the parks have the biggest lineup of the night, with special entertainment all day, and Disney and Universal stayed open to midnight or later last year.

Against it:

  • Capacity. Disney’s ticket terms state that park admission is not guaranteed. On December 31, 2015, Magic Kingdom stopped admitting guests with single day tickets around 9:30 a.m., according to WKMG News 6.
  • Getting out. After midnight, thousands of people head for the parking lots and highways at once.
  • The cold. The normal low for December 31 is 50 °F (10 °C), per the National Weather Service. After hours on your feet, it adds up.

If you go, arrive in the morning, have a date-based ticket bought in advance and stay in one park all day. The calmer days for the rest of your parks are in the least crowded times at the Orlando parks. For getting back late at night, a car helps: see do you need a car in Orlando.

How do you celebrate New Year’s at an Orlando vacation home?

For a lot of groups, the house is the best seat in town: room for everyone, your own food and nobody driving after midnight. A simple plan:

  1. Shop by December 30. Publix closes early on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, with hours posted in stores beforehand. If your family does black-eyed peas and greens on January 1, buy them early.
  2. Heat the pool. With lows around 50 °F, an unheated pool is too cold for most people. Here is how pool heat works.
  3. Assign a water watcher. At night, with a party going, agree on who keeps an eye on kids near the pool.
  4. Fireworks only with the rule confirmed. Ask the team and check the county burn ban that week.
  5. Mind the neighbors. The homes next door may have guests too. Follow the resort’s noise rules.
  6. Plan the football. Camping World Stadium hosts the Pop-Tarts Bowl on Tuesday, December 29, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. ET and the Citrus Bowl on Saturday, January 2, 2027 at noon.

In practice: with a big group, the calmest New Year’s Eve is at the house: dinner in, a heated pool and the countdown on the lanai. If someone insists on fireworks, save the parks for other days and head to a free event near Kissimmee on the 31st, after checking Visit Orlando’s guide to see whether it returns.

When should you head home after New Year’s?

Avoid the first weekend if you can. Last season, Orlando International’s busiest days were January 3 and 4, with about 196,000 passengers each, and the airport recommends arriving at least 3 hours before your flight. In Orange County, students are off through January 4 and back in class January 5, 2027, which keeps that weekend busy on the roads too.
